Dalton Booed At Softball Game

Celebrity Softball Games are a kush gig for a star quarterback.  At least they should be.

Yuk it up with the pack of ex pros and comedians they’ve rounded up, don’t embarrass yourself at the plate, and wave to the fans.

The problem for Andy Dalton is – those fans aren’t waving back… in fact, they’re booing the home town quarterback.

Playing in front of the Cincinnati crowd in the pro-am, Andy Dalton made Nick Lachey seem like Johnny Bench. NOW BATTING, STARTING QUARTERBACK FOR YOUR CINCINNATI BENGALS…ANDY DALT…BOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

T-Sizzle and James Harrison would have got a warmer reception.

Dalton said afterwards “I’m not worried about it… There’s a lot of support and that’s all that matters.”

He’s right. There was a lot of support. For Snoop. And Macklemore. And that dude from The Hunger Games. And Urb Meyer.

But really, it’s no surprise that Cincy fans boo’d Dalton at a softball game.  Because I’ve seen them do it at a football game.  Usually in the first week of January when they’re losing their annual wildcard game.

Look a few a years back I might have reminded Bengals fans that Dalton had them in the playoffs, and for years they were brown-paper-bagged Bungles fans.  But for four straight years they’ve been one and done and Dalton has struggled… and while signing that huge contract was good for him: what was he supposed to do, not sign it? As if any of these same fans would have left any of that money on the table themselves: you could see where it’s only aggravating the haters even more.  Because if there’s one thing fans hate more than the face of the franchise not coming through when it matters most; it’s the face of the franchise not coming through when it matters most, who is sitting on a multi multi million dollar contract.

Dalton didn’t help himself out when he hit two home runs either – because all that did was inspire the “He’s a better softball player than football player” drive by on twitter.

Andy – this is how it’s going to be, bro. You don’t even have to win a Super Bowl.  But you have to win a wildcard game.  In fact at this point it would help if you even played average and lost one. I’m never going to tell a fan when you boo, and in the case of Cincy fan- I can’t even blame them.

They don’t care that you’re raking off some b-lister in July, they’re waiting for you to beat anyone in January.
